Selling scrap gold

My son is a hockey player. When he was nine years old, he told me he wanted to play hockey. I was a bit afraid if we could afford that. Ice hockey is an expensive discipline. You have to buy proper equipment: skates, sticks, gloves and helmets. And buying equipment for a nine year old is not a long-term investment. He will probably grow out if it very quickly. Anyway, I did not want to discourage my son so I let him participate in the training. I had some scrap gold which I had been collecting at home for years. My husband is a jewellery maker and he often brings home broken necklaces, earrings or bracelets which were destroyed during transport. I collected all these things and arranged a meeting my husband"s friend who would estimate the value of our scrap gold. I was quite happy because it turned out that I could afford a good pair of skates, a helmet and a stick for my son. Now, he is one of the best players in the country. His team won the national championships last year, and now he is preparing for the next championships. I hope he doesn"t get discouraged because we sold a lot of scrap gold to invest in his career. On the other hand, I don"t want him to feel pressurised, of course. If one day he decides he would rather do something else, like take up martial arts or play the violin, I will let him.
